Love Your Ride Personified : Bill and His Porsche 930's Clicked 1 million kilometres
When we decided to call our blog site Love Your Ride, we envisaged people who were passionate and enjoy their cars every day and could not wait to write about them.
Finally we have the opportunity!
Meet Bill MacEachern from Canada and his Porsche 911.
The two first met in 1976 and have been inseparable ever since.
Many people today drive a Porsche of this vintage only on weekends, not Bill though! His love affair still continues today as the iconic coupe clicks over one million kilometers, and is still his daily form of transport.
The Porsche 930 911 was in flown in from Germany in May, 1976. Its serial number marks it as the 350th 930 to roll off the production line. Bill first saw his dream car through a chain-link fence at the airport where he thought Porsche had made an error ‘It looked like the wrong colour’. Later realizing ‘The car was just covered with a layer of dust’. Once the traces of the long journey were washed away, he beamed with happiness to see his ordered 911 in midnight blue with a cork leather interior.
Being the humble gentleman he is, Bill had a small celebration when the massive millionth kilometer clicked over with a champagne toast. ‘The 930 was just such an amazing watershed machine. Porsche Turbos have set new standards of excellence as both racing machines and high-performance road machines. And they’re still a one-of-a-kind thrill to own and drive today’.
So what can we learn from Bill? Take the covers off your weekend rides and Love Your Ride, every day! xo
