Tesla has sent an electric shock to the motoring world by claiming to have the fastest accelerating car on the planet!

Revealing their second incarnation of the Roadster coupe to the world (whilst at the launch of their new Semi-Truck), Tesla CEO Elon Mask, has said that the new Roadster has been built to “give a hardcore smack down to petrol cars.” The ‘base’ version of the Roadster covers 0-100kph in 1.9 seconds, quicker than a BMW M4 coupe gets from 0-100kph.

Power comes from a 200kWh battery pack and three electric motors. Two motors power each of the rear wheels, while a single motor powers the front wheels, making it four-wheel-drive. Tesla says the new Roadster produces 10,000Nm of 'wheel torque' and has a range of 1,000km. It’s believed that the official top speed is around the 400kph.

Not a lot of info is available on the new coupe although styling appears to be gorgeous (watch video as it takes off), appears to seat 4 and is an all-wheel-drive.

Due around 2020 with a price tag of approximately US$200k, we are sure to have more details in the months to come of when it might be coming to Australia.
