Roy Morgan Research State of the Nation - Automotive Industry Accelerates Towards 'Decade of Upheaval'
This week we were lucky enough to head into Roy Morgan Research and be presented their latest State of the Nation Report, looking into the changes that are predicted to hit the Australian Automotive industry, throughout the 2020’s.
2025 has been identified as the tipping point for the industry as a whole as it faces digital disruption – including increase in car-sharing, driverless cars, zero emissions, and pure online purchasing of cars.
Car-sharing is set to take off in the 2020’s in preference to outright ownership of cars, as per changing attitudes towards cars led by Generation Y whom will be a large part of the population.

Driverless cars may still seem a while away, however research shows that just under half of drivers are ready for this auto driving, with a clear majority of this research group being Millennials, who are 62% ready for driverless driving.

There is a quest to zero emissions; majority of Australians, 62%, would pay more for a car with ‘zero emission’. Again this research indicated that the Millennials are those willing to target this zero figure.

It is safe to say that those car brands that are yet to get any of the above on their planning radar may find it a pretty tough time to maintain existence.
