ALL NEW VOLKSWAGEN POLO GROWS UP AND GETS A DIGITAL WORLD UPDATE
Volkswagen has released the all new small hatch Polo to the world, and it is bigger and more luxurious than ever before.
Styling of the new model is more mature and a huge step over the current model that has been on the market for 8 years now. Now only a 5 door (the 3 door axed due to poor sales), the all new super mini is set take on the small car competition including the Mazda 2, Toyota Yaris and new Suzuki Swift.
The new car sits on a brand new VW-Group small car platform, which will be shared with the future versions of the Audi A1 and Skoda Fabia.
With dimension grown from every angle, except height, it is 4,053mm long (81mm longer than before) and only slightly shorter than the MK4 Golf of the late nineties, 69mm wider and has a full 94mm added to the wheelbase, which is claimed to have greatly improved passenger space and the boot capacity rises from 280 litres to 351 litres- that's 25% more boot space- a big deal for a small car.
We think the car definitely looks more mature than the previous model with a new sophistication that will attract both young and older drivers.
The muscular front-end look benefits from C-shaped LED daytime running lights fitted as standard across the range, while the rear end is more square-edged than before. Sportier R-Line models gain chunky air intakes, a rear diffuser and a roof spoiler. There will be an increase in colour options and new alloy wheel designs to really individualise your car.
Inside you will notice the growth in cabin space, Volkswagen claims quality and technology has reached new heights. The layout has been “structured for the digital world” with the upper dash dominated by a new glass touchscreen infotainment system that varies from 6.5 to 8 inches, depending on trim. Also new to the Polo is VW’s Active Info Display, which is also available in the Golf MK7.5, out now in Australia.
The new Polo will make its Australian debut in the first quarter of 2018, with local features and pricing to be confirmed closer to launch.
