Mercedes-Benz launches X-Class: all new mid-size ute due in 2018
The car world has gone into frenzy over the all new pickup truck by Mercedes-Benz. Yes it’s a first and a very exciting segment for the luxury brand to enter, however all the chatter is over the fact that the original 2016 concept that wowed the world is not quite the final production version.
And then there is the talk that the new truck is simply a re-badged Nissan Navara, which it shares its platform with.
Mercedes-Benz however are quickly to defend that the new X-Class has taken what Nissan has built and made considerable differences where it counts. This includes a chassis upgrade (strengthening and reinforcing the framework) which is a key ingredient in setting the X-Class apart. This gives the new dual cab ute a better ride and stability, especially around twisty roads.
Front of the pickup is unmistakably Mercedes-Benz, with the current signature LED headlights and a huge 3-point star dominating the front grille.
From what we have seen with the interior, the dash appears to have Mercedes-Benz style treatment which includes soft feel trims, circular air vent dials, and also a tablet style screen which houses navigation and entertainment controls.
We hope there is still the solid door thunk you expect from a Mercedes-Benz, fingers crossed.
Due for an Australian release in April next year, pricing and ANCAP rating to follow.
