France’s new President, Emmanuel Macron, is taking the climate accords seriously and wants France to become carbon neutral.
France is committed to be carbon neutral and will ban petrol and diesel engines from 2040
This means internal combustion engines will just have to go. Besides climate change one of the main reasons for this deadline was public health (It is a way to fight against air pollution).
Luckily French automotive brands Renault-Nissan (yes they own Nissan) has a bit of a head start where they are the world’s largest maker of battery-electric cars and its latest purchase, Mitsubishi, is a world leader in plug-in hybrids.
Of the roughly two million electric cars sold globally, the Renault-Nissan group accounts for nearly 450,000 of them.
Other car companies are also planning for an EV takeover, Volvo announced they will electrify all their new cars from 2019 and Mercedes-Benz revealed it would start building battery-electric cars in partnership with Chinese carmaker BAIC from 2020.
