All New VOLVO XC40 Compact SUV - Details and Official Photos
** UPDATE! More details and official photos for the all new VOLVO XC40
Taking on the Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Mercedes Benz GLA, Volvo has finally revealed official photos and details of the new XC40.
As we wrote previously when the leaked photos were circulating thanks to Volvo Hungary, the all new XC40’s design takes a host of pointers from its larger siblings, the XC60 and XC90, but packages them in a more compact and youthful shape.
The striking front, with the trademark grille design and ‘Thor’s Hammer’ LED lights features and is followed suit inside with the huge tablet sitting as a centre piece on the dash.
Inside is pure Swedish design, with a very modern and well laid out interior, almost cocoon like. A first, we hear for a manufacturer, is the relocating of door speakers to the dash which in turn creates extra-large door pockets; very practical.
We did not have any news on the engine choice previously however we can confirm that at launch there are 2 x diesel engines, 3-cylinder petrol, and a plug-in hybrid.
Australian specifics are yet to be confirmed and we will keep you posted when we hear more from Volvo Australia.

Volvo Hungary accidentally released a video of the upcoming Volvo XC40, which will rival the likes of Audi Q2 and Q3, BMW X1, and Mercedes Benz GLA.
Our images are not of the highest quality due to the screen grabs that were taken of the video; however it is clear the new small SUV has a funky, more youthful evolution of the styling cues already seen on her bigger stablemates, the XC60 and XC90. There’s an evolution of the Thor’s Hammer headlight motif, and the side profile is dominated by a noticeable kink rising up towards the C-pillar.
Seen inside is wireless smartphone charging and details like a flexible load space in the boot, and a textured material on the fascia. As per the bigger siblings, Volvo's nine-inch portrait infotainment system sits proudly on the dash.
Volvo will be offering the XC40 with a wide and ‘vibrant’ colour palette, with two-tone paint finishes available too. Similarly, the car’s interior will boast colourful options, such as the new ‘Lava Orange’ carpet colour.
No information was available regarding the engines; we did read that a 1.5 litre turbo 3-cylinder engine will lead the lineup.
Due for its international debut next week, the new XC40 will go on sale down under during the second quarter of 2018.
