Back To The Future: Honda Urban Electric Vehicle Concept Debuts

One of the major stars at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show is the futuristic concept from Honda.

The boxy and retro-inspired hatch, named the Honda Urban EV concept takes inspiration from the original Civic of the seventies, and will form the basis of a small electric production car making a world debut in 2019.

Being 10cm shorter than its sibling Honda Jazz, it is supermini and features a minimalist cabin design with a huge central screen. Rear-hinged doors allow easy access for two in the back (see video), while an interactive display between the headlights can show messages for other road users.

We cannot notice how close the resemblance is between the Urban EV to the original Honda Civic from the 70’s. Are they paying homage to an icon of the past similar to what the new Mini Cooper, VW Beetle, and Fiat 500 have recently done?

We look forward to 2019 for when this futuristic retro concept hatch makes its production world debut.
