BMW Introduces Large Luxe SUV: Concept X7 iPerformance

For those who'd like an X5 but need extra seats, say hello to BMW’s Concept X7 iPerformance.

Making its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the uber luxe SUV concept shows us BMW new design for future models. The concept car is the boldest implementation of the Bavarian manufacturer’s double-kidney front grille we’ve ever seen, and look at the slim headlights housing quad-LED daytime-running light rings – very avant garde.

The concept seats six, though the production model will be offered with a choice of seven seats as well. Positioned to take on various large premium SUVs, including the Mercedes-Benz GLS, Range Rover and Tesla Model X, the bold muscular design is sure to win share.

Wearing the iPerformance badge, this advises BMW’s eDrive system, which sees the coupling of an electric motor with BMW’s TwinPower Turbo petrol engine. BMW says the X7 will be able to run on pure electric form, however driving range is unknown right now.

This would see the X7 hybrid include a 190kw 2.0-litre turbo petrol joined with an 83kw electric motor for system outputs of 240kw.

Inside, the concept feels light with a vast amount of glass, including the Panorama glass roof extending from the windscreen to the rear, generating an incomparable sense of spaciousness.

The BMW X7 will go into production in 2018 and Australia should see the large seven seater here towrds the end of 2018 or early 2019.
