ALL NEW SECOND GENERATION 2018 NISSAN LEAF ELECTRIC VEHICLE REVEALED
The first generation Nissan Leaf Electric Vehicle looked like it should have been a success like the Prius is for Toyota, but with performance and range holding it back sales were sadly low. ‘If it ain’t broke don’t fix it, they say’ Well, when it comes to the Nissan Leaf, it needed fixing...
Bring on the 2nd generation! Introduced to the world yesterday, the all-new 2018 Nissan Leaf Electric Hatch was revealed in Japan, bringing a ‘bigger’ battery pack, more power, improved driving range, autonomous driving technology, more space, and sleeker styling.
With approximately 400 kilometres of driving range thanks to a new battery system, Australians can rest assured they can travel cross country without fear of being stranded. Note: the previous Leaf only offered 120 kilometres; first fix – tick!
Performance has been improved too, with a jump from the current model's 80kw of power to 110kw for the 2018 all new model – this new EV is becoming more inviting. 0-100km/h should be under 10 seconds compared to 12 seconds on the 1st generation Leaf.
Inside the new Leaf, two main digital displays will feature: one behind the steering wheel and one in the dash centre.
Behind the wheel, there’s a combination of analogue speedometer and digital multi-information display, the latter being a 7.0-inch full-colour TFT screen that displays the Leaf’s power gauge on its standard setting.
The centre display offers controls for entertainment, connectivity and navigation – including Apple CarPlay with Android Auto to be confirmed.
Due to go on sale in Japan from early October, the Australian launch date is to be confirmed soon.
