Mercedes-Benz All Electric Vehicle EQC Due 2019
There is more buzz happening in the EV World.
Last week Mercedes-Benz unveiled their entry into the all-electric vehicle market with their first full-electric vehicle, the EQC.
The EQC design looks quite similar to its sibling, the GLC compact SUV, however Mercedes have created a sporty and stretched silhouette, ensuring a point of difference for this EV which could sit between the GLC/ GLE Coupes.
Front of the EQC, in place of a conventional grille, houses a large black-panel surface. An LED light strip connects the headlights and a similar design element is copied in the rear. Actually, we really love this styling!
Other design features at the front include the air inlet with two chrome louvers in the lower area of the front apron and the simulated side air inlets in high-gloss black.
To give you an idea of size of the new EV, the EQC has a 2873mm wheelbase, measuring 4761mm in overall length and 1884mm in width. Although It shares the same wheelbase, the GLC is shorter in length (4656mm) and slightly wider (1890mm).
The EQC is powered by an 80-kilowatt-hour battery which delivers about 450 kms of driving range on a full charge (worth noting the battery has a ‘fast charge’ ability).
There will also be AMG levels of power in the top model EQC400, 300kw of power and 0-100 in 5.1 seconds.
Inside the cabin expect a similar design we have seen in the new A-Class model.
The EQC will be among the first models to launch with the new Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system.
The new central multimedia system (the very long digital screen pictured) includes improved displays and speech-recognition capabilities, along with artificial intelligence and predictive learning abilities. Gone is ‘Siri’ and welcome ‘Hey Mercedes’.
The interior takes design cues from consumer electronics. The louvered trim in the upper dashboard and door panels, for instance, resembles the cooling fins of a hi-fi amplifier.
Looks like the new EV will be playing in the same field as Tesla Model X and the new Jaguar I-Pace when it goes on sale in Europe in 2019, with Australian sales thereafter. As for pricing, a starting point between $100,000 to $150,000 is expected.
