All New 2018 Volkswagen Polo: A Super Contender in The Mini Category

The all new Volkswagen Polo has arrived on the supermini scene bragging the same strengths as before, which is a fantastic thing!

81mm longer overall and 92mm longer between the wheels than the previous model; it also has more cargo space than a Mazda 3. At 4053mm in length, it’s not so different from a MK4 Golf of the early 2000s. Maybe not so supermini after all!

Stylistically, the Polo has never been about being showy, and that hasn't changed. The MY18 Polo may have been designed by a pair of young bucks and launched with the claim of newfound expressiveness and 14 colour choices, but it's still safe, well balanced and recognisable.

Simply put, this is the quality option in this competitive class. The car, despite its small size, drives with a similar level of composure to its larger sibling, the VW Golf. The Polo is one of Volkswagen's iconic cars. The company has sold an astounding 14 million of them since 1975, an impressive figure if you ask us.

The electric-assisted steering is typically light and easy to take a spin around town, whilst the cabin features a technological tour-de-force – if you're willing to pay for options.

The largest touchscreen is an 8.0-inch unit, same as the MK7.5 Golf's. Crucially, it will feature App-Connect, meaning Apple CarPlay and Android Auto enabling. The clean and simple horizontal layout of the dash is driver-oriented and includes a redesigned climate control interface. The future-proofed MY18 Polo also comes with autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection as standard, and available with tech such as blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, parking assist and automatic post-collision braking.

Engine power is made up of a new 1 litre 3 cylinder set up (70KW or 85KW of power pending model choice) which is more than enough to zip around town.

Starting at $18,000 drive-away, the new Polo should definitely get added to your shopping list when deciding on a new supermini.
