Dyson - From Vacuum Cleaners To Electric Vehicle by 2020
As the loyalty of car buyers to brands dwindle, coupled with the electric car craze not too far away from taking over petrol models, it seems there will be new brands popping up in the motoring world – and they are not from where you would expect!
Major appliance companies now want to play in the arena of electric motoring. Who would have thought that today’s toaster or microwave could be tomorrow’s electric motorcar.
Dyson is one of those companies. British inventor Sir James Dyson announced this week that his company will spend more than $2.7 billion to build a swoon-worthy, zero-emissions vehicle by 2020.
Details on the Dyson car are somewhere between limited and nonexistent. Sir James wrote in an email to his staff that competition for new technology in the automotive industry is fierce and they must do everything to keep the specifics of their vehicle confidential.
He did say he has started building a team of engineers with automotive experience, which is already 400 strong and aggressively recruiting.
Dyson has proved people are willing to pay a hefty premium for bagless vacuum cleaners, blade-free fans, and tech-packed hairdryers. Very cool products, but will this transfer to a motor car? We await 2020.
PS – Hopefully their new car doesn’t look like the pic!!
