Terzo Millennio: Lamborghini Futuristic Concept Electric Vehicle

Next time you think you’ve had a productive day, remind yourself that in a little town outside Bologna, Northern Italy, a team of highly trained motor and IT experts are sitting in a room, drinking espresso, and basically working out how to make cars fly.

Introducing the Terzo Millennio - Lamborghini’s first electric supercar - landing from outer space in 2030.

This car is so futuristic it makes us feel like we’ve been living under a rock for the past 25 years. Sorry, but when did cars start looking like the Batmobile and learn to electronically charge themselves? Imagine Ben Affleck (Batman) meets Grant Gustin (The Flash) and they have a high-performing, eco-friendly, Italian speaking lovechild together… In theory it’s fabulous, but at the same time, wildly overwhelming.

Thankfully, the Terzo Millennio, or in English; Third Millennium, isn’t a reality just yet.

Alongside their friends at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the luxury Italian car manufacturer has been conducting research to create the world’s first high-performing, fully electric sports car. This vehicle will be 100% powered by carbon fibre body panels, which will not only store, but recharge energy.

Three more years of research will be underway before MIT and Lamborghini give the car the green light. If they do, they predict it will take two years for industrialisation, followed by five years for production. This means that by 2030, this dream-woven supercar could be a reality.

Currently, other electric car makers, including Tesla and Jaguar, use large battery packs to electronically power their SUV’s, but Lamborghini says these are too heavy for a sports car. Determined to achieve a top speed of 186mph, the Terzo Millennio has pre-requisites of completing at least three laps, at full speed, of the Nordschleife (Nürburg-Ring) race track in Germany.

Mind blown? Us too.

With brains for days, looks that could kill, and an environmentally sustainable agenda at heart, the Terzo Millennio is the poster boy for a greener, smarter millennium… that might not end up being as wildly overwhelming as we think.
